When you finish your social studies assignments early, come to this page to find extra credit assignments. You may work on a project for several days until it is complete. Once you are finished, turn it in and the appropriate credit will be given. Points will be awarded based on effort and quality. The number listed is the maximum amount of credit you will receive per project. You are welcome to complete as many projects as you would like.
First Quarter Extra Credit Assignments
- Draw a world map. You may trace it if you need to. Label the oceans and continents. Also include the equator and prime meridian. (3 extra credit points on a low test grade)
- Draw a U.S. Map. You may trace it if you would like. Label the states and capitals. (3 extra credit points on a low test grade)
- Create flash cards for important vocabulary terms studied this quarter. On one side include words and on the reverse side include a definition in your own words. (5 extra credit points on a low test grade)
- Create a tree map graphic organizer depicting the similarities and differences between the earliest humans. (5 extra credit points on a low test grade)
- Complete a treasure hunt on the Constitution. (5 extra credit points on a low test grade)
- Cool Country Report: Write a report about a country in North or South America. Feel free to include other information if necessary. You should follow the outline provided.

Famous people/rulers/kings/presidents/etc. from the country's history.

One paragraph discussing the CULTURE. It should include:

One paragraph discussing the ECONOMY. It should include:

Manufacturing areas
Land use (ie. farming areas)
Major occupations (jobs)
The currency (type of money)
One paragraph discussing the CLIMATE. It should include:
General weather conditions
Average yearly rainfall
Average yearly temperature
What effects the climate has on the country
Your paper should have at least one paragraph discussing any INTERESTING FACTS about your country. It could include:
Population Modes of transportation
Story behind the flag Strange laws
Travel tips Native animals
Your paper should have a CONCLUSION paragraph which includes:
A nice wrap-up of your research.
You should use an encyclopedia, the internet, books, etc. for your research. (15 Extra Credit points to a low test grade)
2nd Quarter Assignments
*Read one of the books in the You Wouldn't Want to..... related to Egypt. Take a reading counts test on the book and score an 80 or higher. (5 extra points on a low test grade)
*Research an Egyptian god or goddess. Prepare a Google Slideshow presentation for the rest of the class. (10 points on a low test grade)
*Go to the website http://www.history.com/topics/holidays/veterans-day-facts. Write a summary and complete a 3-2-1. Three things you didn't know, 2 things that surprised you, and one thing you think is awesome. (3 points on a low test grade)
*Go to the website http://www.gallopade.com/client/electionsForKids/ElectoralCollege.html. Write a summary of the electoral college and then write a short paragraph explaining if you are for or against electing leaders using the electoral college. (5 extra credit points on a low test grade)
3rd Quarter Assignments
*Read YWWTB in Alexander the Great's army and complete the timeline (located with the book). Take a reading counts test on the book and score a 70 or higher. (5 extra points to a low test grade).
*February is Black History Month. Read a biography (print or online) of a famous African American and write a one page summary of their life and contributions to America. (10 extra points to a low test grade).
*Research a Greek or Roman god or goddess. Prepare a Google Slideshow presentation for the rest of the class (10 points to a low test grade).
*We have not read about all the civilizations on Studies Weekly. Select one we have NOT studied, read the information and complete the ten question worksheet that goes with it. (Score 80 or higher to get 5 extra credit points added to a low test grade.)
*Read an article assigned on digital.readworks.org related to Black History Month. Complete the questions. (Score a 70 or higher for 5 points added to a low test grade.)
4th Quarter Assignments
*We have not read about all the civilizations on Studies Weekly. Select one we have NOT studied, read the information and complete the ten question worksheet that goes with it. (Score 80 or higher to get 5 extra credit points added to a low grade.)
*Create a review powerpoint for a civilization we have already studied. Make sure to include the most important BIG IDEAS from the civilization. (5 points added to a low grade).
*Select one of the artists/writers/etc. from the Renaissance. Write a biography of the person and include their major accomplishments. This can be in a report or presentation format. (10 points added to a low grade).
*Go to www.ducksters.com. Research the Aztec, Inca or Maya civilizations. Create a report or presentation to show what you have learned. You must include information not covered in class. (5 points added to a low grade).
